Full Job Description
As a member of the Environmental Services Department, the successful candidate will help provide a clean, safe, and supportive environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the hospital and its satellite areas, including in-patient and out-patient units, Operating Room Theatres, Clinical and Research Laboratories, and common areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily and periodic cleaning of routine and isolation rooms and corridors within assigned units/areas, including:
- Waste and sharps collection
- Cleaning washrooms and shower rooms
- Cleaning furnishings, fixtures, and telephones
- Dusting shelves, sills, ledges, lights, and vents
- Mopping floors
- Cleaning beds, stretchers, and clinical equipment
- Distribute and collect ice water jugs
- Distribute and collect menus
- Replenish supplies and clean linens; collect soiled linens as required
- Remove and hang curtains using a step stool or ladder
- Help maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by:
- Following fire safety and infection control procedures
- Reporting unauthorized persons to the Clinical Leader/Manager or RN in charge
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience working as a cleaner in a healthcare or hospitality setting
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling/pushing, and continuous walking or standing
- Knowledge of cleaning products and their proper use
- Basic knowledge of WHMIS
- Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and supportive patient care environment
- Ability and willingness to work all shifts (days, evenings, nights, and weekends) based on departmental needs
- Excellent attendance record and good standing
- Shifts may change based on departmental requirements
